Chapter 60: Blocked
Yin Chengjue began considering finding more projects for Rong Yu. The variety show Don’t Look Back in the Dark exploded in popularity overnight due to the buzz. Qin Linlin pulled everyone into a group chat late at night and listed all the sponsors now willing to fund the show.
With capital investment, their equipment and filming locations would be upgraded and modernized, no longer just simple setups.
Qin Linlin grinned from ear to ear, as if already envisioning the profits the show would bring.
"With this money, Blood Mist can have a bigger budget," Qin Linlin said cheerfully to Yin Chengjue. "I’m also investing in Blood Mist. I poured my heart into writing this book, and I want it to be perfectly adapted! I won’t let my readers down!"
Yin Chengjue, who was video-calling with her, nodded slightly. "So you’ve already chosen your male lead?"
Qin Linlin widened her eyes, looking incredulous. "Is that even a question? Of course, it’s Xiao Yu! The moment he walked into the audition room, I saw Wu Xiaoye stepping out of the book—that coldness, that wicked charm, that untamed aura, yet gentle only toward Wu Xiaoqing. It was like the character came to life!"
Yin Chengjue nodded in deep agreement.
Rong Yu truly had a natural talent, effortlessly embodying two contrasting personalities. Even wearing the same clothes and without makeup, he could convincingly play dual roles.
"Blood Mist still needs casting for other roles. The protagonist’s investigation team must also have high looks and high acting skills!" Qin Linlin mentally calculated her savings, reluctantly shifting her gaze away from A-list celebrities and considering lower-tier, more affordable actors.
Yin Chengjue flipped through the internal schedule from Hey Brother, Let's Debut! and said, "There are only a few more episodes before the final lineup is decided. The last selection criterion is acting skills—after that round eliminates some, there’ll be a revival round, followed by a final three-group showdown performing the theme song. The official debut group should be finalized by the end of the month. By then, Blood Mist’s other roles should also be cast, and Rong Yu can officially start filming."
"Got it! Then I’d better hurry with casting! My standards are high!" Qin Linlin declared with fighting spirit.
The incident the previous night not only boosted the popularity of Don’t Look Back in the Dark and Hey Brother, Let's Debut! but also brought the name "Yin Chengjue" back into Su Zi and Feng Changheng’s sights.
After the previous "kneeling scandal," Yin Chengjue publicly announced he would no longer cover Feng Chengda’s medical expenses. As a result, the massive hospital and nursing bills fell on Su Zi.
Over the years, she had siphoned plenty of money from the Yin family through Feng Chengda, spending it lavishly on herself. But now that she had to spend it on Feng Chengda’s treatment, it felt like a waste.
Yet she couldn’t downgrade his room or transfer him to a cheaper hospital. After all, she had played the devoted lover, vowing to spare no expense to cure him. If she suddenly cut costs now, wouldn’t that expose her hypocrisy?
If she wouldn’t even spend on his hospital bills, how could she claim to be doing "everything" for him?
So she had no choice but to swallow the bitter pill, paying the exorbitant fees while silently fuming.
Already resentful toward Yin Chengjue, Su Zi seized the chance to scrutinize his latest scandal when his name trended again.
Seeing the speculation about Rong Yu and Yin Chengjue’s relationship, Su Zi felt she had finally found leverage. She rushed to Feng Chengda’s bedside, dramatically condemning Yin Chengjue for "keeping a male celebrity" and being gay.
Feng Chengda, who had been lying in bed all this time without a single visit from Yin Chengjue, was already furious. Hearing this news, his face turned red with rage, and he immediately ordered Su Zi to call Yin Chengjue.
Su Zi was more than happy to oblige—she had been waiting for Feng Chengda to berate Yin Chengjue.
But the call didn’t go through. All she got was a busy signal.
After several failed attempts, Su Zi borrowed a nurse’s phone—this time, it connected.
Feng Chengda wasn’t stupid. He realized immediately: he had been blocked.
He never imagined Yin Chengjue would block him.
That son, who had spent his childhood craving his approval, had actually blocked him!
Feng Chengda was so angry he couldn’t speak, on the verge of another emergency trip to the operating room.
Feng Changheng, standing nearby, had been silent ever since Su Zi brought up Yin Chengjue’s "affair." His expression grew increasingly conflicted as Su Zi and Feng Chengda openly expressed disgust toward homosexuality.
Feng Changheng was still living in the school district apartment Feng Chengda had bought for him, sharing it with Ming Qian—though Ming Qian was currently staying at the Hey Brother, Let's Debut! trainee dorm and hadn’t been back in a while.
It had never occurred to him that his parents were so conservative, completely intolerant of his sexuality.
Every word Feng Chengda spat at Yin Chengjue felt like an attack on him.
Neither Feng Chengda nor Su Zi noticed their son’s discomfort. Once they got through to Yin Chengjue using the nurse’s phone, Feng Chengda immediately launched into a furious tirade.
But before he could finish even one sentence, the call was disconnected. When he tried again, the line was busy once more.
Su Zi borrowed several more phones, but the result was the same.
Feng Chengda was livid. He felt like he had been transported back to that day years ago—a memory still fresh in his mind.
That day, Yin He had taken him to the Yin family’s ancestral home. The entire Yin family had ignored him as if he were invisible, down to the maids serving tea.
Even though his initial interest in Yin He had been purely for her family’s wealth and connections, their dismissive treatment left him seething with resentment.
In his mind, he was allowed to scheme and manipulate, but the Yin family’s coldness toward him was unforgivable.
So he had spent years harboring hatred, plotting to one day crush the Yin family beneath his feet.
He had worked diligently, finally gaining some success, and even Old Master Yin’s attitude toward him had softened. But then, one misstep—those photos of him and Su Zi—cost him Yin He’s trust and the Yin family’s backing.
All his recent misfortunes stemmed from those photos. His career plummeted, obstacles arose everywhere, and now he was stuck in a hospital bed, helpless as bad news piled up.
Yin Chengjue blocking him, refusing to communicate, brought it all rushing back.
Years of effort, reduced to nothing.
Even the son he had always looked down on no longer sought his approval.
Beyond anger, Feng Chengda felt an emptiness—what had he gained all these years? What had it all been for?
His gaze shifted to Su Zi and Feng Changheng by his bedside. For the first time, he questioned his past choices.
"...Chengda?" Su Zi called several times before he responded. His strange look made her nervous—had he figured something out?
Fortunately, Feng Chengda soon looked away, and Su Zi relaxed slightly before cautiously speaking again.
"Hm?" Feng Chengda finally acknowledged her. "What did you say?"
"I said, A-Heng is about to start his second year of high school, and after that comes the crucial third year. We should start preparing now—hire some good tutors to improve his grades," Su Zi said. She never slacked when it came to her son’s education.
"Mom!" Feng Changheng’s head throbbed at the mention of studying. His aversion to school grew stronger by the day—every time he went, he faced endless gossip.
The words hurt more than knives.
"Mom, I don’t need tutors!" Feng Changheng protested.
"This isn’t up for debate!" Su Zi’s expression darkened as she glared at him. "Your priority is studying. You need to interact more with your classmates so you can succeed in the future and not embarrass your father. Understand?"
Feng Changheng opened his mouth to argue, but Feng Chengda, still lying in bed, nodded. "Yes, hiring tutors is a good idea. It’s settled."
"Dad! I said I don’t want them!" Feng Changheng couldn’t stand the thought of outsiders disrupting his and Ming Qian’s private life.
Even though Ming Qian was currently staying at the Hey Brother, Let's Debut! dorm, he would eventually return. If tutors were constantly coming and going, Su Zi and Feng Chengda would inevitably find out about their relationship.
Given how vehemently they had just condemned homosexuality, Feng Changheng knew they would never accept him and Ming Qian.
But Feng Chengda’s decision was final. No amount of protest would change it.
Left with no choice, Feng Changheng texted Ming Qian: We can’t live together in my place anymore. We’ll have to meet somewhere else from now on.
