Rebirth to Erase Dark History Chapter 21 Part 2

Yang Jiabo was stunned and said dumbly, “Brother, you eat it.”

“That one is for you,” Wei Jing said as he slowly peeled his own tea egg.

“Thanks, brother.” Yang Jiabo didn’t fuss and happily ate it. Wei Jing had always been this thoughtful since they were kids. Those single men who couldn’t find girlfriends should really learn from him. The two ate happily, but when Yang Jiabo went to pay, he found that Wei Jing had already taken care of it. While Yang Jiabo felt touched, he was also a little annoyed.

“This time it’s my treat. Next time, you treat me,” Wei Jing, being perceptive, noticed his little grievance.

“Deal. Otherwise, don’t come to help anymore.” Yang Jiabo wasn’t the type to take advantage of others. If someone treated him well, he had to return the favor.

  “Okay.”

“We don’t have anything to do this afternoon. Want to go fishing?” Yang Jiabo suddenly felt inspired.

“Where can we fish?” Wei Jing genuinely didn’t know. His life revolved around studying and reading books he found interesting. Honestly, he was more like an adult than Yang Jiabo.

“There’s a big ditch near our vegetable field. We can also catch some crabs, frogs, and snails. We can make a meal out of it tonight.”

  “Sure.”

After agreeing, Wei Jing followed Yang Jiabo home, and then they went to the fields with the adults. As they walked, someone suddenly blocked their path. Yang Jiabo looked up and his heart sank. It was the plump woman from before, and she had two men with her.

“Brother Ma, it’s these two brats,” the woman pointed at the two children.

“Waaah—” Yang Jiabo burst into loud, fake tears. He was scared. As a child, he was no match for these adults. All he could do was pretend to be terrified and cry, hoping to lower their guard while figuring out how to escape.

“Don’t be afraid.” Wei Jing tightly held Yang Jiabo’s hand, though the sweat in his palm betrayed his calm demeanor.

“Don’t let go of me,” Yang Jiabo ‘cried.’

  “Okay.” Wei Jing nodded firmly.

“Sister Fatty, you got taken down by these two little brats?” Liu Qiang mocked.

“These brats are sneaky,” Sister Fatty said, slightly embarrassed.

Brother Ma glared at Yang Jiabo and Wei Jing, his eyes like a venomous snake waiting to strike. The adults thought the two kids were too scared to move, but they never expected that the next second, the kids would turn and run.

Yang Jiabo pulled Wei Jing into a narrow alley. In his past life, Yang Jiabo had often played in this area. He didn’t like taking the main roads and preferred these maze-like alleys. People who weren't familiar with the area, it would take a while to find the way out. Unfortunately, after the shantytown was redeveloped, this place was demolished and replaced with tall buildings.

“You little brats, stop!” Liu Qiang, furious at being outsmarted by kids, chased after them. He was fast, but his overconfidence had allowed the kids to escape.

“Brother, keep up and don’t let go.” Yang Jiabo pulled Wei Jing through the narrow alleys, using the environment to create distance between them and their pursuers.

“Jiajia, where are we going?” Wei Jing was also disoriented. He didn’t even know there was such a place in the city.

“My second aunt’s house is in this area.” Yang Jiabo was panting heavily. He was running for his life.

The two stopped talking. The alleys were winding, and some places were so narrow that two adults couldn’t walk side by side. Some paths looked like dead ends but led through someone’s house to another alley. Others were just narrow, smelly ditches behind houses. Yet Yang Jiabo managed to lead Wei Jing along the pipes by the ditches to another path.

“Damn it, I told you to stop! When I catch you, I’ll skin you alive!” Liu Qiang cursed, picking up half a brick from the roadside.

Brother Ma watched the two slippery little figures with a dark expression and asked Sister Fatty, “Aren’t you from around here? Do you know this area well?”

“Of course.” Sister Fatty was out of breath.

“Good, take me to block them.” Brother Ma narrowed his eyes dangerously.

“Why didn’t I think of that?” Sister Fatty was delighted. The kids could only escape in one direction. Confident, she led Brother Ma away.

By now, Yang Jiabo and Wei Jing had reached Second Aunt’s house, only to find it locked. Even the neighbors Yang Jiabo knew were out. This was a dead-end alley. If they were caught here, it would be trouble.

As for asking for help, Yang Jiabo had considered it, but in recent years, the streets were full of gangsters. Knife fights were common, and few people dared to intervene. He didn’t want to risk being caught by their pursuers.

Yang Jiabo thought for a moment, then made a decision. He pulled Wei Jing deeper into the alley and stopped by a low wall. “Quick, climb over. On the other side is Chongming Elementary School. We can find the security guards.”

The wall wasn’t high, but they were too short to climb it easily, and Wei Jing clearly didn’t know how to scale walls. Yang Jiabo had to boost Wei Jing up from below. He grumbled inwardly, wishing his third cousin had skipped class today. This was his cousin’s usual spot for skipping school, and he usually left a few stones by the wall to help him climb.
