Yin Chengjue's mind raced with thoughts, but all he said was: "You go wash your face and hands first and sit on the sofa. Just turn on the TV."
Rong Yu, still holding the empty bowl: "What about the rice?"
Yin Chengjue: "I'll serve it."
Rong Yu: "What about this rice cooker..."
Yin Chengjue: "I'll have someone bring a new one tomorrow."
Realizing he had messed up again, Rong Yu's figure turned desolately towards the living room. He muttered quietly, "I really want to cook... and make rice... with brother in the kitchen."
Seeing Rong Yu's dejected expression, Yin Chengjue felt a pang of sympathy. "Did you never really get to help out in the kitchen at home?" he asked gently.
Rong Yu's eyes shifted: "It's not that I've never done them at all... it's just that, usually, shortly after entering the kitchen, I get chased out."
Sure enough!
His suspicion confirmed, Yin Chengjue felt he was remarkably accurate. But seeing Rong Yu's downcast look, his tone was gentle as he offered comfort. "It's fine. Nobody's perfect. From now on, you can just wash your hands and wait to eat."
"Your words are exactly the same as what my eldest and second brothers said..." Rong Yu sighed: "Actually, it's not my fault, right? Those pots, pans, and utensils are just too fragile. They break as soon as I touch them. And the fire, it leaps up instantly, uncontrollable. And that wok, the handle snapped off as soon as I gripped it. I was just a little slow adding oil, and the bottom of the wok burned through. The quality just isn't good."
Yin Chengjue: "..." He could already imagine how many times their kitchen had been renovated over the years.
Yin Chengjue rubbed Rong Yu's drooping head: "Yeah, it's not your fault. It's that the quality of these things isn't good."
Rong Yu, comforted and smoothed over, happily went to the living room to wait.
Yin Chengjue had made four dishes and one soup today, each plate filled to the brim.
Watching Rong Yu stuff his cheeks full like a little hamster, Yin Chengjue couldn't resist raising his chopsticks to poke Rong Yu's cheek.
Yin Chengjue propped his chin on his hand, smiling as he watched him: "Eat slowly. No one's competing with you."
Rong Yu swallowed the food in his mouth, took a sip of tea, and said, "Sorry, brother, I didn't mean to. My dad taught us from a young age that food on the table only tastes good when you fight for it. And you must finish every single dish on the table, you can't waste anything, otherwise you'll be punished."
Yin Chengjue was speechless. What kind of ruthless, survival-of-the-fittest upbringing was this!
Is it following the law of the jungle?
Yin Chengjue picked up some meat and put it in Rong Yu's bowl: "If you're at a banquet, try to restrain yourself a bit. Otherwise, there's a ninety percent chance you'll end up on trending searches. The 'foodie' persona is easy to break, I don't recommend using it."
"Mmhm! I know my limits! It's mainly because the food brother made today is too delicious!" Rong Yu picked up a chicken drumstick and put it in Yin Chengjue's bowl, "Brother, don't just watch me. You eat too!"
"I'm not very hungry. But you, you've been filming all day on set, you must be tired?" Yin Chengjue said he wasn't hungry, but he didn't refuse Rong Yu's offering.
"Today was okay. It wasn't an outdoor shoot, it was inside the studio. Just memorize the lines well and act them out. There weren't many scenes with other actors, mostly it was just me deducing... Wu Xiaoqing is truly the embodiment of a chatterbox."
In the script, Wu Xiaoqing's dialogue had accounted for roughly fifty percent of the total lines. Wu Xiaoye's lines made up another thirty percent.
This meant that Rong Yu, by playing both roles, had been responsible for delivering a staggering eighty percent of the series' entire dialogue.
"Wu Xiaoye's lines are quite numerous too," Yin Chengjue said.
"That's different. Most of Wu Xiaoqing's lines are deductions. But Wu Xiaoye's lines..." Rong Yu pursed his lips into a smile: "Fifty percent of Wu Xiaoye's lines are calling 'brother'."
Rong Yu started counting on his fingers: "For example, 'Brother~ I'm hungry~' 'Brother~ When we were fighting earlier, they actually flipped my fingernail up, it hurts so much~ Brother, blow on it for me~' 'Brother~ Let's go take a bath together~' 'Brother~ Let's sleep together~' 'Brother~ Goodnight!' 'Brother~ Good morning!' 'Brother~ I like you, give me a kiss~'"
Yin Chengjue: "..." No, why are you reciting the lines while staring straight at me? And using such a particularly mushy tone?
After seriously listing Wu Xiaoye's lines while looking directly at Yin Chengjue, Rong Yu then rested his chin on his hands and said to Yin Chengjue with a serious expression, "Tell me, why does Wu Xiaoye like calling Wu Xiaoqing 'brother' so much?"
Yin Chengjue: "...Probably because, in his previous life, Wu Xiaoye was a chicken?"
Yin Chengjue tried hard to remain calm and steady: "Because, he's always clucking, 'brother, brother (gege)'."
"Pfft!" Seeing Rong Yu's expression twitch, Yin Chengjue finally couldn't hold back and burst out laughing.
Rong Yu instantly realized he was being tricked and said angrily, "Brother!!"
Yin Chengjue: "Yeah! I'm here!"
"You're comparing me to a chicken!" Rong Yu accused.
"That's a false accusation! I never said that," Yin Chengjue defended, though a grin betrayed him.
Rong Yu: "That's not what the smile on your face says! Take this!"
As he spoke, Rong Yu made a pecking motion with his hands like a little chicken and pounced towards Yin Chengjue!
Yin Chengjue grabbed one of Rong Yu's wrists, twisted it back, and pinned him against the table.
