Chapter 91: Caught You
What lay quietly in Rong Yu's hand was a red maple leaf folded into the shape of a heart!
"Brother, did you know? A red maple leaf symbolizes enduring longing." Rong Yu picked up the heart-shaped leaf with his fingertips, looked directly into Yin Chengjue's eyes, and said seriously, "I folded it into the shape of a heart, placing my longing inside it."
"Now, I give my heart to you." As he spoke, Rong Yu placed the maple leaf heart into the left breast pocket of Yin Chengjue's tailcoat—the place closest to Yin Chengjue's heart.
"Brother, you must take good care of it." Rong Yu said with a gentle smile.
"Okay!" Yin Chengjue pressed his hand over the spot where the leaf had settled in his pocket, replying with equal seriousness.
The wind rustled through the maple grove, red leaves swirling down, landing on their shoulders and clothes. Their eyes met, gazes entwined.
In that quiet moment, Yin Chengjue felt a rare and profound peace settle over his heart. It was a gentle sensation, like being brushed by the softest feather, spreading a wave of warm comfort that left him feeling deeply reassured.
"Giggle giggle…" Just then, a string of bell-like laughter rang out, like children playing.
Reluctantly, they broke their gaze and looked towards the sound. They saw a little boy in a white windbreaker running over, chased by another boy in a red hoodie.
"Brother! Stop right there!"
"Hehehe, if you tell me to stop, I stop, then I'd lose all dignity! Ow!" The boy in the white windbreaker, running ahead, wasn't watching his path and bumped into Yin Chengjue's leg, falling flat on his bottom.
"Sorry, big brother, I didn't mean to." The boy in white quickly stood up, brushing off his pants, and bowed his head in apology to Yin Chengjue.
"It's fine, just don't run so fast next time. Look, your little brother can't catch up." Yin Chengjue said.
"Dad told me to run. Honghong is too slow, he needs more exercise." The boy in white pointed behind him. The boy in red, who had finally caught up, was slumped at his feet, panting heavily, gasping out his complaint: "But you don't… have to run… for so long… right!"
Rong Yu's gaze suddenly fixed intently on the boy panting on the ground, carefully observing his every move.
"One last lap, get running!" The boy in white was clearly a very strict older brother. He waved at the boy in red and started running off in a direction again.
"Wait for me! Brother!" The boy in red had no choice but to scramble up and stumble after him.
Their little bottoms swayed as they left. Yin Chengjue turned back to look at Rong Yu and saw him holding his chin, deep in thought.
"What is it?" Yin Chengjue asked.
"Brother!" Rong Yu suddenly clapped his hands together. "How about this: you run, and I chase you!"
Rong Yu looked excited, as if he'd had a brilliant idea. "Director Chen said I should film that scene as Wu Xiaoqing after I'm tired from running, right? So, right now, I'll chase you!"
Yin Chengjue: "…" I'd be crazy to agree to this!
Ten minutes later, Yin Chengjue looked down in disbelief at himself, sleeves rolled up, sprinting through the maple grove…
He must be under some strange spell, he thought, to be indulging in such a bizarre and childish game!
Of course, a flicker of pride was also driving him forward.
Why? How was Rong Yu so fast? It defied all logic!
The moment this thought flashed through his mind, Rong Yu's voice, teasing and sweet, called out from close behind him, "Brother~ I caught up to you again~"
Yin Chengjue put on a burst of speed, putting some distance between them again!
After running a while longer, hearing the footsteps behind him growing fainter, Yin Chengjue turned back in confusion, only to find the space behind him empty. The figure that had been closely following him was gone.
Yin Chengjue's heart leaped. He immediately looked around, but his view was filled with vast swathes of red maple leaves, not a single person in sight.
"Rong Yu?" Yin Chengjue suddenly regretted it. What did it matter if he got caught? He knew it was just a childish game, why did he take it so seriously?
The maple grove was so big, the ground covered with so many leaves. Could there be a hole somewhere? Did Rong Yu step in it and fall?
Yin Chengjue retraced his steps, his mind conjuring up all sorts of possibilities. Adding to his worry, the plot of Blood Mist, which they were currently filming, involved similar disappearances in a maple forest, and those who disappeared had all met with misfortune…
Yin Chengjue rubbed his temples, trying hard not to let his imagination run wild.
Maybe Rong Yu just took a wrong turn and didn't follow the right path?
"Rong Yu! Where are you?"
"Rustle rustle…" Just then, an unusual sound came from the treetops above. Yin Chengjue looked up sharply and saw a red figure swinging down!
Yin Chengjue instinctively stepped back half a step, but felt a weight land on his shoulders. Immediately after, something crashed hard against his lips!
Yin Chengjue was thrown back against a tree trunk by the momentum, his mind blanking for a second.
But he quickly processed what had happened, and was left with nothing but utter helplessness.
Hmm, lol.
