Chapter 83: Wu Xiaoye
"The world is just like this. Those who do good suffer poverty and shortened lives, while those who do evil enjoy wealth and longevity. That man beat his own son, framed me, then abandoned his wife of humble means, and ended up with a new woman, having a son and daughter, living a happy and fulfilling life."
Qi Yuan suddenly laughed: "Now you know why I absolutely must have the tongues of 102 children, right? Because, you see, those elementary school students from back then have all grown up now, most have their own children, and the number of those children added together is 71. The other 31 are the children of the students who bullied Lili back then, one after another, adding up to that number."
Rong Yu stood with his hands in his pockets, watching him with a cold expression.
"Yes, that's right. It was your father. He identified me back then. It was your parents who caused me to end up in this state." Qi Yuan's fingertips suddenly tightened, squeezing the hostage's neck.
Xiao Yuan Yuan cooperated by struggling, frowning and letting out a series of painful gasping sounds.
Qi Yuan said: "Your parents, for a few pieces of candy, a few cakes, tore my family apart and drove my dear Lili to suicide!"
When he first got out of prison, he hadn't wanted to seek revenge on so many people. He just wanted to find the truth of what happened back then, to clear his name.
However, when he found his ex-wife and asked to see Lili, his ex-wife tearfully told him that Lili was dead—she had jumped off a building and died not long after he went to prison.
That period was the most broken, most insane, yet most helpless time for his ex-wife. She wanted to die several times but was stubbornly clinging to the desire to know the reason her child jumped.
Actually, the reason was always clear.
Because this Mr. Xie went to prison with a criminal record, she was seen in others' eyes as the daughter of an ex-con.
His ex-wife took their daughter to another city, changed their names, and started life over. They spent a lot of money treating their daughter's psychological problems, finally managing to counsel her to a somewhat better state where she could attend school normally.
After a period of calm like this, those past events were almost forgotten, and life seemed about to continue peacefully, when suddenly a post appeared on a school forum exposing Xie Lili's past.
In an instant, the whole school knew Xie Lili was a criminal's daughter. Some people specifically waited for her on the way home from school, pointing at her, laughing at her, throwing stones at her, and upturning buckets of water on her.
Xie Lili, who already had psychological problems, completely broke down. She almost frantically rushed to the top floor of the teaching building and stood on the edge of the railing.
At that moment, she was too scared to jump. The wind on the rooftop also cleared her head, making her afraid, and she wanted to climb back. But those children laughingly blocked the place where she could have climbed back.
They even mocked her: "Are you scared now? If you have the guts, then jump!"
"Beg us, beg us to pull you back. Hehehe, even if you beg us we won't pull you. You're a criminal's daughter, you're filthy. Pulling you would dirty our hands."
"Yeah, yeah! My mom also said not to play with you, not to get close to you. My mom even told the teacher to kick you out of our class. We don't want to be in the same classroom as a criminal's daughter!"
"Get out! Get out! Our class doesn't welcome you!"
"My mom also said the teacher shouldn't even allow someone like you, a criminal's daughter, to come to school. She said if the teacher still doesn't agree to kick you out of our class, she's going to complain about the teacher."
A group of children laughed and joked, and as they spoke, they started chanting slogans in unison.
Just like the chant a teacher uses in class to quiet everyone down.
Except the teacher's chant was: "1, 2, 3, please be quiet." And what they were now chanting themselves was: "3, 2, 1, jump down."
The children clapped their hands, gleefully urging their classmate, whose life hung by a thread, to jump off the building.
What a horrifying scene that must have been.
Yet, at the moment this was happening, not a single child felt what they were doing was wrong. Even after Xie Lili actually jumped, they were still... cheering...
As if they had accomplished something incredibly impressive.
"This is so fun! Let's go bring her back up and keep playing!"
"I'm going to tell my mom I want to be in the same class as her. She's just too much fun!"
"I'll tell my mom too! I want to keep playing with her!"
Not understanding the consequences of their actions, they skipped downstairs, wanting to call the jumped Xie Lili back to play with them.
But this was obviously impossible. When they got downstairs, they only saw a crowd of onlooking students screaming in terror, and teachers frantically making phone calls. The Xie Lili they were looking for had already fallen into a bloody mess.
"Waaah!—" The group of children burst into terrified wails, crying and shouting sorrowfully: "Where's Lili? We want Lili to play with us!"
"We don't want Lili to leave our class! We want to play with Lili!"
The school administrators and teachers, unaware of the truth, thought the children were kind-hearted and hurried to comfort them.
