Chapter 50: Love Confession Song
Night fell, and the lights shone brightly.
At Dong'an Square, a melodious tune began to play.
In this place where music blared from all directions at night, playing a song was nothing unusual.
But just then, two young men in black tailcoats and tall top hats glided gracefully through the crowd on roller skates. They hooked their canes together and performed a simple pairs routine.
Their outfits stood out in the crowd, drawing eyes to them—until another young man in a black-and-white tailcoat skated out, extending his cane to hook onto theirs.
The pairs routine became a trio, then a quartet.
Their movements grew wider, even circling the entire Dong'an Square, making sure the scattered crowd noticed them.
It was hard not to, because aside from these four pulling off impressive moves, two more tailcoat-clad young men flanked them, cameras in hand, seemingly filming something.
All six were strikingly handsome in their own ways, making onlookers unable to look away, eager to see more.
By the time people realized it, they had already followed the six to a corner of the square.
There, cameras were set up, and lights flicked on.
"Pop! Pop!"
Confetti burst from both sides. The six immediately halted their movements, quickly lining up in front of the cameras, hands clasped, heads bowed.
Then, the sound of wind chimes rang out.
"Who stopped by my window, knocking on my heart's door~"
Wen Yu, standing on the far left, lifted his head as he sang, raising a hand as if seeing something.
"Who smiled so tenderly, plucking at my heartstrings~" Chi Yang, on the far right, lightly held his mic, flashing a bright grin.
"Who called my name with such a sweet voice~" Rong Yu pressed his hands to his chest, looking up with devotion.
"Who reached out a hand, leading me into spring~" Bi Sheng extended his hand, right toward the camera.
"Ah~ It's you~ Sweet-talking you~ It's you~ The best you~" The blunt boy Tao Li belted out the highest note of this section.
Tao Li's voice was clear and ethereal, almost feminine when hitting high notes. Fans often said his voice was kissed by the gods—when he sang high, souls resonated.
His teammates naturally left the high notes to him. As he sang, they all began moving in sync, dancing the group choreography they had practiced the most since debut.
"Pink spring blossoms, angels' trumpets, fluttering ribbons, a song of happiness!"
Tao Li poured himself into the song—his most captivating moment. The others tossed their top hats into the air in unison!
Then, a tall figure skated out from the group, taking center stage for the rap:
"Yeaaah! Yo! Sweetest you, prettiest you, knocking on my window, living in my heart. Cupid's arrow is our witness, our reflections on love's sea!"
"Ah! Is this the feeling of falling in love?—" they chorused, swiftly forming their formation.
"Ah! Is this the feeling of romance?—"
"Ah! Is this the feeling of happiness?—"
As the song mellowed, the six paired up for a brief rumba.
Three couples, simple moves—but with three partner swaps, it never felt dull.
When the second part began, the solo lines turned into a chorus, the song now infused with a DJ's upbeat energy. The six scattered like birds freed from a cage, beckoning the crowd to clap along.
Freestyle segment! Improv time! Essential for hyping up the crowd!
Maybe inspired by them, maybe drawn by their looks, some young men and women actually joined in, swaying to the rhythm.
One, two—more and more people jumped in, pulling in even more. The six sang at the top of their lungs while the crowd danced. Some even showed off high-speed roller spins, then pointed at the six.
Rong Yu smoothly skated forward, mimicking the move—even adding a high kick.
"Oooh! Yesss!" The crowd erupted in cheers.
Not to be outdone, the challenger pulled his girlfriend into a lift, spinning her midair before setting her down. Foreheads touching, they both pointed at the six.
The six: "..." Battle us, sure, but don't flaunt your relationship!
Rong Yu pressed his lips together, then suddenly turned and skated toward a man sitting on the ground, offering a hand.
The man wore a black cap, a black mask, and all-black clothes, sitting just outside the light. If not for Rong Yu, no one would've noticed him.
The other five, realizing who Rong Yu had pulled in, smirked, continuing the song while subtly egging them on.
Yin Chengjue: "..." Pretty sure I watched a fake rehearsal earlier—this wasn't in the script!
But when he looked down, Rong Yu's hopeful eyes met his.
Yin Chengjue: "..." Whatever.
They repeated the rumba they'd improvised that afternoon.
Maybe it was his imagination, but Yin Chengjue felt Rong Yu was even more spirited this time, as if fired up by the earlier challenge.
As the song looped, Rong Yu traced a finger along Yin Chengjue's neck, singing:
"Who stopped by my window, knocking on my heart's door..."
"Was it you?"
Rong Yu tilted Yin Chengjue's chin up with a fingertip.
Yin Chengjue: "..." Lyrics aside, this feels... weirdly suggestive.
Rong Yu lifted a leg, arching back.
Yin Chengjue held his waist, striking the final pose.
"Bravo!" Applause erupted, the crowd cheering wildly.
As more people gathered, some filmed and uploaded clips.
Soon, fans recognized both the song and the six performers. "Wait—aren't those our idols? What are they doing performing out in the streets?"
One share led to thousands. Turns out, other groups from Hey Brother, Let's Debut! had also appeared in plazas and streets, promoting their new songs—possibly filming content!
With the day's events over, the show's official account confirmed it: the trainees had drawn lots to perform in public, filming their live promotions. Highlights would be released soon—stay tuned!
More clips of other groups surfaced, leaving fans kicking themselves. Some lived nearby but missed their chance to see their idols up close!
Then, one video went viral—titled: Who's the guy dancing with Rong Yu? Not a trainee, but that height, that build, those faintly visible muscles—I'm obsessed!
While the trainees showed their faces, the masked dancer remained a mystery, sparking endless speculation.
Comments flooded in:
@Grass: I was there! These six were dancing when someone challenged them... Rong Yu stepped up, won, then the challenger brought out his girlfriend for a pairs routine. So Rong Yu pulled a random guy from the sidelines—this guy!
@YuanYuan (replying to @Grass): OMG, fate!
@YuanYuan: Petition for hat-and-mask removal!
@Skeptic: Obviously staged. No way he just happened to pull a skilled dancer. You guys are so gullible.
@Grass (replying to @Skeptic): Who cares? The dance was fire, and Rong Yu owned it. I'm stanning!
@FishFan: That chin lift tho—I wanna be that mystery guy!
@Grass (replying to @FishFan): Right?! And Rong Yu singing "Who stopped by my bed... was it you..." to him?!
@BigFish (replying to @Grass): GIRL! The lyrics are window, not bed!
@Grass (replying to @BigFish): Nope, live version was bed! Also, what's this song called?
[The original lyric is "窗边" (chuāng biān - window side). However, @Grass is deliberately mishearing it as "床边" (chuáng biān - bedside)]
@FishFan: Heartbeat! A love confession bop! Join the fandom!
@Grass: ...
Everyone reading: ...
Wait. Rewatching the clip... why was Rong Yu singing a love song to some random guy?
Author's Note:
Rong Yu: A confession? Pfft. I wanted to kiss him! Too bad I'm too short QAQ Next time, elevator shoes!
[Elevator shoes: shoes with hidden height-increasing insoles or built-in lifts]
Hmm, lol.
ReplyDelete... oh. Oh. oH. OH😮. Will they find out that the crush Rong Yu mentioned is him? 🤔😏
