Rebirth: Spoiling the Obsessive Film Emperor Chapter 22

Chapter 22: Support Goods

Yin Chengjue could swear to the heavens that he hadn’t come here of his own volition. It was purely out of a superior’s duty to assess the professional capabilities of a potential future employee. Plus, the company had gotten front-row tickets, and it would be a waste not to use them. So, he had reluctantly decided to "drop by for a look."

To avoid drawing too much attention, Yin Chengjue deliberately wore a pair of glasses, slightly altered his usual hairstyle, and dressed in the most common outfit found at roadside stalls—a twenty-yuan checkered shirt paired with jeans.

However, once he arrived at the venue, Yin Chengjue realized he had overthought it. Though the area outside the performance hall wasn’t packed to the point of being a sea of people, it was still crowded enough near the ticket-checking zone that no one would bother scrutinizing him.

And this wasn’t his past life—that life where people had cursed and jeered at him, wishing they could drown him in their spit.

Right now, he had only just started working and was merely seen as a spoiled rich kid basking in his parents’ colorful halo.

The moment this realization struck, Yin Chengjue instantly relaxed. He even found himself leisurely strolling around, observing how fans these days showed their support.

Yes, support.

Since the performance hadn’t started yet, the people lingering outside the venue were all fan groups distributing support goods.

Carrying boxes and bags, groups of young girls had sweat beading on their foreheads and faces. Despite the heat and exhaustion, their enthusiasm remained undiminished. They handed out support items to pre-registered fans while also coaxing passersby (those who weren’t fans of anyone but just here to kill time) to take glow sticks and wristbands.

The glow sticks and wristbands all bore their respective idols’ names, serving as a form of promotion.

"Hey, handsome, here for the show? It’s so hot, want some drinks?" Just as Yin Chengjue was about to enter the ticket-checking area, a bright voice called out to him.

Yin Chengjue turned and saw two girls standing beside a foam box, handing out cold drinks to passersby. The condition? They had to follow their idol’s Weibo and vote for him online.

This vote wasn’t related to the upcoming performance but was instead for "July’s Most Wanted Idol." The top ten would earn a homepage splash screen on a certain app, and the winner would get an exclusive interview and ad offers.

For trainees who hadn’t officially debuted yet, these were major exposure opportunities. Naturally, fans wanted their favorites to get as much visibility as possible.

Hence, the vote-campaigning.

Yin Chengjue had initially planned to pretend he hadn’t heard, but his eyes caught the fans waving handheld fans printed with Rong Yu’s face.

Silently repeating to himself: I’m here to assess a future employee, I’m here to assess a future employee…, he reluctantly walked over.

The girl who had called out to him had done so because Yin Chengjue wasn’t holding any support items. But when he turned around, she was met with a devastatingly handsome face that hit her like a visual punch!

The girl shook her head vigorously. She must’ve been standing under the sun for too long, her vision blurred—otherwise, how could she be seeing a suave, bespectacled heartthrob straight out of a manga walking toward her?

The scholarly gold-rimmed glasses, the rogue’s smirk at the corner of his lips, the fitted checkered shirt, those long, straight legs…

The girl tugged at her friend, who was busy handing drinks to people in another direction, and stammered, "I’m sorry."

Friend: ?

Girl: "I think… I might wanna switch loyalties…"

Friend: !

This was serious! The other girls quickly followed her gaze, and then…

"Can’t blame you… I kinda do too…"

"He’s coming over!"

"Oh my god, what’s he doing?"

In that moment, they completely forgot they were the ones who had called him over in the first place.

"Can I buy your support goods?" Yin Chengjue held up his phone screen to them. "I’ve already voted."

"Ah—yes! No, no, you don’t have to buy them! They’re free with the vote—drinks and support items!" A doll-faced girl was the first to react, pulling out a glow stick from a large box. But after a pause, she put it back and instead took out a small light sign—the kind one person could hold.

The big light signs were for the fan groups and couldn’t be given away. Only glow sticks, wristbands, and small light signs were for distribution.

The doll-faced girl handed the small light sign to Yin Chengjue. "Um, are you a fan of Yu Yu, handsome?"

Yin Chengjue thought for a moment. "You could say that. He’s very talented."

"Yeah, Yu Yu’s amazing!" Hearing their idol praised, the girls beamed with pride.

"Though he’s too thin, he should eat more. He’s still at an age where he’s growing."

"Right, right!"

"Oh, handsome, what drink would you like? We’ve got orange, coconut milk, milk tea, and sweetened water." The doll-faced girl remembered the drinks after handing over the light sign.

"Just sweetened water. You’ve all worked hard, be careful of heatstroke. You should head in soon. If your idol saw you standing here under the sun, he’d definitely feel bad. He’s got the talent, he’ll attract more genuine fans who’ll vote for him based on his own merits."

Yin Chengjue wasn’t just saying this. In his past life, despite all the slander and mudslinging, Rong Yu had still shone brilliantly, his star rising undimmed.
