Chapter 38: Inviting Guests
The person Shang Liu was referring to was naturally Rong Yu. However, Yin Chengjue still remembered Rong Yu mentioning his desire to act, so he initially wanted to arrange for Rong Yu to join a drama crew for training first.
"Brother Jue, who did you sign?" Qin Linlin asked curiously, leaning in. "Brother Jue, which contestant from Hey Brother, Let's Debut! did you sign?"
"It's that Rong Yu," Shang Liu answered.
"Wow! If it's him, I think it’ll work!" Qin Linlin suddenly got excited. "His dancing is so cool! Their team’s song this time is really good too—I even voted for them last night!"
"And then there’s Tao Li—he’s so funny! But I think he’s already signed with a company." Qin Linlin counted on her fingers and realized that, among the current Hey Brother, Let's Debut! contestants, the only ones available, without company contracts, and reasonably priced were Ming Qian and Chi Yang.
"The show needs at least nine guests to make the games work. Even if we add Rong Yu, we’re still short six people," Shang Liu reminded.
Yin Chengjue hadn’t expected that, in the brief moment he hesitated, they had already automatically included Rong Yu. He could only say, "Let’s check Rong Yu’s schedule first."
"Come on, it’s just a trial recording—we can squeeze in the time!" Second Young Master Qin waved his hand dismissively.
Recently, the Qin family had been keeping a tight watch on him, so Second Young Master Qin had practically become Yin Chengjue’s shadow, following him everywhere.
Qin Linlin was exasperated by her second brother’s cowardly behavior. "Yeah, time can be squeezed, and guests can be scraped together. How about this, Second Brother—why don’t you and Brother Jue wear masks and join in to fill the numbers? Then ask around in your rich friends’ group if anyone’s free to come play games. Treat it like a trial run!"
Qin Linlin had originally meant to tease her brother, but after saying it, she realized this idea was actually feasible!
Those rich second-generation kids weren’t short on appearance fees and were always bored looking for things to do—this was perfect. They could just treat it as a game!
If they didn’t want to show their faces, they could wear masks! It’d even add some mystery for the audience!
"If the masks are cool enough, I don’t mind helping fill a spot," Second Young Master Qin said. He never turned down anything novel. In fact, ever since hearing about his sister’s project, he had been eager to try it out himself and was even planning to experience it after the recording.
Second Young Master Qin quickly rounded up four of his usual playmates, filling the nine spots.
Yin Chengjue also asked Sally to check Rong Yu’s availability. Rong Yu happily agreed, requesting leave from Hey Brother, Let's Debut! the night before the trial recording and arriving early the next day.
The variety show’s name was taken directly from Qin Linlin’s earlier novel concept—Don’t Look Back After Dark.
Before filming began, Qin Linlin and Shang Liu had the arriving guests introduce themselves to each other.
The two veterans Shang Liu had invited were seasoned professionals, so even upon hearing that this was a trial run with mostly rich second-generations guests, they weren’t too pressured—just slightly concerned that these privileged kids might be difficult to work with, potentially affecting the show’s quality.
"Mr. Shang, even if you’d hired some D-list celebrities, it’d be better than bringing in these young masters, no?" Liu Qingling patted Shang Liu’s shoulder and whispered into his ear.
The famous talk show host Yang Ji also nodded in agreement, glancing at the group of rich kids who were already bickering among themselves.
Shang Liu smiled reassuringly. "Relax, none of them are troublemakers—they’re just here to have fun. Besides..." He winked meaningfully. "If they enjoy themselves, this show won’t lack sponsors, right?"
Hmm, lol.
