Rebirth: Spoiling the Obsessive Film Emperor Chapter 43

Chapter 43: Vote for the Killer

Wei Shu’s aggrieved expression was far too obvious, and the others immediately realized his mission was the treasure hunt.

Lei Miao had previously stated outright that he wasn’t on the treasure hunt line. Yin Chengjue had privately exchanged code words with him, but the other gave no indication, meaning Lei Miao’s task couldn’t be the detective line—so it had to be the escape line.

Later, Rong Yu came over and said he had already exchanged code words with Xiao Xiao, meaning the detective trio was now complete. After careful observation, Yin Chengjue was 90% certain Hua Yun was on the escape line. Liu Qingling and Yang Ji knew each other and must have exchanged code words. Since they showed no wariness toward each other after doing so, they were most likely on the same mission line.

The escape line already had Lei Miao and Hua Yun, while Liu Qingling and Yang Ji had to be on the same mission—meaning they were on the treasure hunt.

Now that Wei Shu had exposed himself as part of the treasure hunt line, Qin Ke could only be on the escape line.

After confirming the mission lines of all nine players, Yin Chengjue lowered his gaze slightly, his thoughts racing.

To win this game, merely rushing to find clues for one’s own mission wasn’t enough—they also needed to hide the key clues of other mission lines.

For example, the key clue for the treasure hunt line was the treasure itself, the key clue for the detective line was the killer, and the key clue for the escape line was the password or key to open the final door.

Now that the treasure for the treasure hunt line had been discovered and hidden by players from other mission lines, all they had to do was conceal the escape line’s key password or key… and the detectives’ time to find the killer could be extended.

Yin Chengjue could think of this, and naturally, players from other mission lines could also devise strategies to benefit their own objectives.

The once-harmonious atmosphere of discussing the story’s background instantly grew tense.

“Looks like we’ll have to split into groups now and see who’s faster,” Hua Yun adjusted his glasses, voicing what everyone was thinking.

The nine players dispersed, each choosing a different direction to leave.

Yin Chengjue went to the second-floor tea room of the hotel and waited a few minutes before Rong Yu and Xiao Xiao entered one after another.

There was a camera set up in the tea room, with a green sign hanging next to it that read in bold letters: “Voting Station.”

Among the three mission lines, only the detectives needed to vote for the killer, so this dedicated station was clearly for them.

Each person cast one vote for the killer. If all three votes were for different people, the show could eliminate one safe player and then have the three detectives choose between the remaining two.

If they correctly identified the killer and were faster than the other mission lines, the detectives would win. If they guessed wrong, the killer would escape, and the detectives would lose immediately—no matter how fast they were.

“Are you both ready?” Yin Chengjue asked.

Rong Yu and Xiao Xiao both nodded.

“Good, let’s start voting.”

Yin Chengjue stepped forward first, turning his back to the other two as he held up a slip of paper with the killer’s name written on it for the camera.

On it were two bold characters: Hua Yun.

After Yin Chengjue stepped back, Xiao Xiao walked up and unfolded his slip—Yin Chengjue.

Xiao Xiao smirked mysteriously at the camera, winking with a triumphant look, as if he had seen through the truth.

Next was Rong Yu. His slip read—Qin Ke.

All three answers were different. Qin Linlin, sitting behind the camera, sent a text to the nearest staff member, who then held up a sign behind the camera.

This segment would be edited with a voiceover for broadcast, so even if they communicated via signs on-site, it wouldn’t matter.

“Eliminate Qin Ke? Who voted for Qin Ke?” Seeing the staff’s sign, Yin Chengjue and Xiao Xiao asked simultaneously before both turning to look at Rong Yu.

Rong Yu unfolded his slip and sighed. “Sorry, I wasted one chance.”

“It’s fine, don’t stress over it,” Yin Chengjue reassured him.

The staff raised another sign: Now choose between the two remaining names voted by the detectives. Please select between Hua Yun and Yin Chengjue.

“Why did you vote for me? If I were the killer, I’d have hidden every clue I found instead of discussing them back and forth with you,” Yin Chengjue couldn’t understand why he seemed suspicious.

Xiao Xiao scratched his head. “Brother Yin, there’s a saying—the thief cries ‘stop thief’—and besides, Wei Shu and Lei Miao are terrible at hiding their expressions. Out of everyone here, you and Brother Hua are the most suited for this kind of thing.”
