Rebirth: Spoiling the Obsessive Film Emperor Chapter 48

Chapter 48: Couple Outfits

Yin Chengjue had a good dream that night. The next morning, he woke up early, worked out at the gym for two hours, took a relaxing bath, and then poured himself a glass of champagne from the wine cabinet to enjoy alone.

A new message popped up on WeChat—from Rong Yu.

Big Fish Spreads Wings: Brother Yin! Are you okay?

Big Fish Spreads Wings: I just got my phone back today and found out what happened last night. It’s so infuriating! Those gossip accounts have no morals! [Angry salted fish.jpg]

Digging Three Feet Deep: Do you have any activities today?

Since Hey Brother, Let's Debut! was a closed training program, the trainees only got their phones when they went out or had events.

Big Fish Spreads Wings: Today’s an outdoor recording. We drew lots to pick from a few locations set by the production team, and each group has to perform their newly written song on-site while filming audience reactions.

Digging Three Feet Deep: Which place did your group get?

Big Fish Spreads Wings: …Dong’an Square.

Digging Three Feet Deep: …Isn’t that the roller-skating rink?

Big Fish Spreads Wings: [Salted fish lying flat.jpg]

Big Fish Spreads Wings: Never mind me. Brother Yin, are you really okay? If you’re feeling down, you can talk to me. I’m always willing to listen.

Yin Chengjue took a sip of champagne and couldn’t help but smile at the message. He quickly typed back.

Digging Three Feet Deep: Always? Then can you listen now?

Big Fish Spreads Wings: Of course! Send me your location!

Digging Three Feet Deep: Just kidding. My place is too far from Dong’an Square. Focus on your work.

Ten minutes passed…

Twenty minutes passed…

Half an hour passed…

Digging Three Feet Deep: Where’d you go?

Digging Three Feet Deep: Busy?

There was no response from Rong Yu, which made Yin Chengjue slightly uneasy. Their conversations always had a proper ending—never abruptly cut off like this.

Maybe something urgent came up, and Rong Yu forgot?

After hesitating for a while, Yin Chengjue changed his clothes and decided to check on the situation at Dong’an Square.

But as soon as he drove onto the main road and stopped at a red light, his peripheral vision caught someone getting off a bus.

It wasn’t that Yin Chengjue had sharp eyes—it was just that the person was impossible to miss, sprinting down the sidewalk with multiple large bags slung over his shoulders.

The figure flashed by, but Yin Chengjue caught a glimpse of his profile.

That was… Rong Yu!!!

Startled, Yin Chengjue honked his horn without thinking.

Beep! Beep!

But with so many cars around, Rong Yu didn’t notice. Instead, he dashed across the crosswalk just before the light turned red.

Yin Chengjue’s heart leapt into his throat. Even though pedestrians had the right of way, there could still be turning vehicles. It was dangerous!

And Dong’an Square was so far from here—why was Rong Yu in this area?

Did Rong Yu know where he lived?

Several thoughts raced through Yin Chengjue’s mind before the light turned green. He turned the steering wheel and followed the direction Rong Yu had gone.

To his surprise, Rong Yu, still carrying all those bags, ran straight toward the apartment complex where Yin Chengjue currently lived.

Yin Chengjue parked his car a short distance behind Rong Yu and watched as the man set down some of his bags to pull out his phone.

A second later, Yin Chengjue’s phone rang inside the car.

The caller ID: Rong Yu.

Yin Chengjue: "…" Mixed feelings.

"Hello?" Yin Chengjue couldn’t figure out how Rong Yu knew his address. Even if it had been leaked online, he owned multiple properties in City A and could’ve been staying at Yin He’s place. How did Rong Yu know he’d be here today?

"Brother Yin! Guess where I am right now?" Rong Yu’s voice was still slightly breathless from running.

Yin Chengjue paused before replying, "Where?"

"I’m at the entrance of your apartment! Surprised? Shocked?" Rong Yu’s tone was infectiously cheerful, like a ray of scorching sunlight that made it hard to suspect any ulterior motives.

The question "How do you know where I live?" teetered on the tip of Yin Chengjue’s tongue, but he forced it into a more pleasantly surprised tone. "What? You really came?"

"I’m outside your complex! I brought you gifts!" Rong Yu said happily.

Yin Chengjue replied, "Wait for me. I just stepped out to grab something, but I’ll be right back. Go find a shady spot to sit, and hand your phone to the security guard. I’ll tell him to let you in."

"Okay!" Rong Yu passed his phone to the guard, who soon spoke into it. "Hello? Mr. Yin?"

Yin Chengjue: "Yes, he’s my friend."

Guard: "Got it!"

After watching Rong Yu enter, Yin Chengjue sat in his car for a moment longer to collect himself before driving into the complex.

Rong Yu was waiting under a large banyan tree near the entrance. Hearing the car, he turned around with a dazzling smile.

"Brother Yin!"

"Get in. I’ll park in the underground garage—we can take the elevator up from there." Yin Chengjue decided not to question how Rong Yu had found him. He’d just treat this as a normal visit from a friend.

He was also relieved that Second Young Master Qin had gone out for a night shoot and hadn’t returned yet. Otherwise, explaining this would’ve been awkward.

"What about your recording? Is it okay?" Yin Chengjue asked.

"It’s fine. The production team gave us the whole day. The cameras will keep rolling, and our group decided to perform in the evening. We’re using the daytime to practice roller-skating at Dong’an Square—it’s part of the act."

Yin Chengjue: "Oh. Then shouldn’t you be practicing?"

Rong Yu: "I already know how to skate, so I volunteered to go buy supplies for tonight."

Yin Chengjue: "…So all these bags are stuff for your performance?"

For some reason, Yin Chengjue felt a pang of disappointment. When Rong Yu mentioned bringing gifts, he’d thought everything was for him…

"Nope, these are all for you. I haven’t bought the performance supplies yet." Rong Yu lifted a large box and handed it to Yin Chengjue. "Open it."

Curious, Yin Chengjue took it and froze the moment he saw what was inside.

It was a car model—the exact one he’d mentioned in last night’s post, the one he’d wanted as a child but was scolded for by Feng Chengda.

Kids naturally get curious about fun, new things, and Yin Chengjue was no exception. But every time he showed interest in something, Feng Chengda would berate him instead of supporting him.

Over time, Yin Chengjue stopped expressing his desires altogether.

Though he no longer cared about these things now, the childhood longing for a surprise gift still lingered.

And now, on this ordinary day, that wish had been fulfilled.

"You… all these…" Yin Chengjue stared at the car model, at a loss for words.

"There’s more!" Rong Yu eagerly opened the other boxes.

From large toy models to small black glass marbles—every little thing Yin Chengjue had ever mentioned wanting but never receiving was now laid out before him.

Shock didn’t even begin to describe how he felt. Even though these weren’t things he still yearned for, the excitement was just as intense as it would’ve been back then.

"Xiao Yu, thank you." Yin Chengjue meant it sincerely.

"Now check this out." Rong Yu handed him another box.

"Clothes?" Yin Chengjue pulled out a shirt printed with a small rabbit design.

"It’s a family set!" Rong Yu unpacked the three-piece outfit.

Yin Chengjue’s smile dimmed slightly. "He won’t wear it." Some things were pointless to buy.

"Then I’ll wear it!" Rong Yu gripped the shirt, his expression serious. "Brother Yin, some people aren’t unwilling to be your family—they’re just unworthy of it. You shouldn’t waste your emotions on them."

His gaze burned with determination. "Brother Yin, you deserve better family—people who’ll silently support you, encourage you, stand by your side no matter what, and share both your glory and hardships."

Yin Chengjue was stunned for a moment before smiling faintly. "You’re right."

After a pause, he couldn’t resist asking, "Then what about you? Will you stand by my side?"

"Of course!" Rong Yu declared instantly. "Brother Yin, I’ll give you everything you’ve ever wanted!"

"Ha, such sweet talk." Yin Chengjue flicked Rong Yu’s nose playfully. "That’s enough. You’re not even fully grown yet, and you’re making such bold promises. Aren’t you embarrassed?"

"Brother Yin, I’m dead serious! I’m not joking!" Rong Yu rubbed his nose, annoyed at the disbelief. "I’ll swear to heaven!"

"Enough, I don’t believe in heaven anyway." Yin Chengjue ruffled Rong Yu’s hair. "Let’s go."

"Go where?"

"To buy the stuff you need for tonight. You forgot your own responsibilities and still dare to boast?" Yin Chengjue spun his car keys around his finger.

"We just got here, and we’re leaving already?" Rong Yu muttered under his breath.

"What was that?"

"Nothing, nothing!" Rong Yu hurried after him and tentatively asked, "Brother Yin… will you come watch our performance tonight?"

Yin Chengjue raised an eyebrow. "What? I’m personally escorting you back, and you still want to kick me out?"

"No, no! Of course not! I’d love for you to come!"

If Feng Chengda wore it, it’d be a family outfit. But if Rong Yu wore it, it’d be a couple’s set. Rong Yu’s lips curled up uncontrollably.
