Chapter 12: Genius Yu
The production team didn’t just edit Ming Qian’s three-day practice footage—they also included clips of other trainees’ practice sessions.
When it was A-Class’s turn, featuring Rong Yu, the audience saw that after just one demonstration by the mentor, Rong Yu had already memorized most of the moves. Meanwhile, the other A-Class trainees were still struggling with the first two sections of the dance.
By the third run-through with the mentor, Rong Yu was already able to keep up. The other four A-Class trainees, though not at Rong Yu’s level, had managed to roughly remember some of the movements.
One trainee, however, remained completely lost, looking around at his teammates who were picking up the dance at lightning speed—like a pitiful little soul who had wandered onto the wrong set.
This unfortunate trainee was the brutally honest boy who had openly admitted to getting plastic surgery.
Since the overall skill level in A-Class was high, this honest boy’s lagging progress stood out even more.
While his pace wouldn’t be considered slow in other classes, in A-Class, it was like watching a turtle crawl.
By the seventh full run-through with the mentors, Rong Yu could already perform the entire dance perfectly, only needing to polish a few details. The other four trainees had also memorized most of the routine, while the poor honest boy was still utterly confused.
“Huh? What? You guys already know it? Didn’t the mentor say this was just a trial run? Weren’t they supposed to teach us step by step later? How are you all already getting it?”
The production team deliberately zoomed in on the honest boy’s face, emphasizing his bewildered expression.
The barrage of comments exploded with laughter—not because they thought the honest boy was stupid, but because his reaction was just too hilarious.
What amused the audience even more was that when it came time for the mentors to break down the moves one by one, it was actually Rong Yu who ended up teaching the honest boy. Since Rong Yu had already mastered the dance, the mentors focused on refining the details for the other four trainees, leaving Rong Yu to guide the struggling one.
The comments section was in stitches.
—The honest boy: YuYu, how come I remember you’re a trainee just like me?
—The honest boy: Existential crisis.jpg
—Other groups: one mentor teaching many trainees. A-Class: many mentors teaching one trainee.
—Honest boy, stop questioning life! Right now, you’re the only one in A-Class who can’t dance, LOL!
—Tao Li doesn’t belong in A-Class. He’s dragging the whole group down! I don’t get why people hype up this fake-faced guy. What’s wrong with the world?
Amid the laughter, some negative comments also surfaced.
—Uh, quick question—who’s Tao Li?
—Wait, I checked—apparently our dear honest boy is named Tao Li!
—What? His name isn’t actually Honest Boy?
[耿直 (gěng zhí) = honest]
—My bad, I didn’t even know my own idol’s name. I’m worse than a hater.
From then on, the A-Class trainees’ routine became: eat, sleep, chat, and take turns coaching Tao Li.
The other A-Class trainees still went to the practice room regularly, but Rong Yu only went once or twice—spending the rest of his time helping Tao Li refine his moves.
Even so, by the end of the three days, Rong Yu was still the best performer.
While the others’ post-evaluation speeches were all “I worked hard! I gave it my all!”, Rong Yu’s was: “The show’s meals were pretty good, and the living conditions were nice too.”
When asked in an interview how he felt about learning the theme dance, Rong Yu replied: “It was pretty easy.”
This response absolutely crushed someone who had only slept six hours trying to master the dance but still moved like a stiff zombie—grinding them into the dust, pulverized.
Watching Rong Yu’s deadpan delivery of such infuriating words on screen, Yin Chengjue couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
This guy was practically Ming Qian’s natural enemy!
He had to be nurtured carefully!
However, Yin Chengjue’s good mood only lasted until he opened Weibo.
Because on the hot search list, a hashtag had quietly climbed its way up—one specifically targeting Rong Yu with hate.
Yin Chengjue had suppressed all the negative tags about Ming Qian, so Ming Qian’s team had taken a different approach: dragging Rong Yu down instead.
Star News: [Pick nose][Pick nose][Pick nose] This isn’t the place for you to fool around. Show some respect for the other contestants. Everyone else is working hard, but you’re treating this like a vacation. How does someone like you deserve first place? How do you belong in A-Class? Just because you learned the dance beforehand?
I refuse to believe anyone can memorize a whole dance after seeing it once. Cheating is cheating—stop pushing this “genius” act. It’s disgusting. [Vomit][Vomit][Vomit] Attached: [GIF][GIF][GIF]
Hmm, ok.
