My Fulang is a Delicate Flower Chapter 85 Part 2

Huang Yinsheng tapped Ji Taoyu’s forehead lightly before placing two fingers on his wrist to take his pulse.

As soon as he felt the pulse, Huang Yinsheng’s brow furrowed briefly, then relaxed before pressing down again.

Seeing his grandfather’s unusual expression, Ji Taoyu straightened up slightly: “What is it? Is something really wrong again?”

Huang Yinsheng glanced at Ji Taoyu before slowly withdrawing his hand.

“You silly child, haven’t you noticed anything unusual about your body?”

Ji Taoyu frowned at his words, his heart tightening slightly.

“N-no… I haven’t.”

What Huang Yinsheng said next shocked him deeply.

“You’re pregnant.”

Ji Taoyu froze in place. There was no way he could doubt his grandfather’s decades of medical expertise—he wouldn’t misdiagnose something as basic as a pregnancy pulse. Precisely because of that, he found it even harder to believe.

Back when they learned that his body wasn’t well-suited for pregnancy, he and Huo Shu had always been cautious, taking preventive measures every time. How could this happen…

For a moment, he didn’t know whether to feel joy or worry. After a long pause, he finally murmured, “I… I’m pregnant?”

Huang Yinsheng’s brow remained tense, his tone serious.

“Such a major matter, and you didn’t even pay attention. Your body has always been weak, yet you were completely unaware. What if you had accidentally bumped or hurt yourself?”

Ji Taoyu bit his lip and instinctively placed a hand on his belly, touching his still-flat stomach.

“After the New Year, I did feel more sensitive to cold and fatigued, and my body wasn’t as nimble. I thought it was just the changing weather and being busy with the merchant group, so I never considered this possibility.”

Now that he thought about it, all these symptoms were indeed signs of pregnancy.

“Your body has always been weak, so if you didn’t pay attention, it would naturally feel like your usual bouts of poor health.”

Compared to Ji Taoyu’s shock, Huang Yinsheng seemed somewhat more prepared.

The two had been married for over a year now, and neither had any health issues. Huo Shu, by all appearances, was not one to hold back—having a child was only a matter of time.

That it had taken this long was likely due to Huo Shu’s restraint and protective measures.

“The child is still very small, just over a month along.”

Huang Yinsheng spoke patiently. “Your health has improved compared to before marriage, but you’re still not as strong as most people. I had hoped you’d wait another two years before having a child, when your body would be more stable. But these things aren’t always predictable.”

Huang Yinsheng laid out the pros and cons without holding back. “Now that the child is here, you must take good care of yourself. It will be difficult—your pregnancy symptoms will likely be severe. But if you choose not to keep it, the damage to your body would be far worse than for most, and you might never conceive again.”

Ji Taoyu nodded, listening carefully to his grandfather’s words.

As unexpected as this was, there was no way he would give up the child.

This was his and Huo Shu’s flesh and blood—how could he ever abandon it?

Huang Yinsheng patted Ji Taoyu’s head, sensing his unease, and spoke gently:

“Don’t worry too much. In the past, your grandfather couldn’t protect your little grandfather, but this time, I won’t let anything happen to you.”

Ji Taoyu’s nose tingled, his eyes reddening.

He buried his face in Huang Yinsheng’s shoulder.

Huang Yinsheng escorted Ji Taoyu back to the village. With such important news, he couldn’t rest easy without personally informing Ji Yangzong and Huang Manjing.

In this family, Ji Taoyu was their only child—his well-being was their utmost priority.

As expected, when Ji Yangzong and Huang Manjing learned of the pregnancy, they were a mix of nervous shock, joy, and guilt—their emotions were tangled beyond words.

They were upset that they hadn’t noticed anything unusual about him all this time. The whole family had completely overlooked the possibility. If not for Huang Yinsheng checking his pulse today, who knew how long it would have taken to find out?

The household was thrown into chaos. Though worry lingered, it couldn’t suppress their happiness. A new addition to the family was always a joyous occasion, no matter the household.

Huang Yinsheng gave them detailed instructions. The couple had raised Ji Taoyu well, so there wasn’t too much to fret over.

“The first four months are the most critical. Don’t go climbing hills or wading through water—stay put and behave. If you need to go to town, have your father or someone reliable take you. Don’t travel on rainy days when the roads are slippery.”

Huang Yinsheng didn’t impose overly strict restrictions, like forbidding him from leaving the house entirely.

He still needed to go out and move around—being cooped up all day wouldn’t be good for the baby.

“Keep your mood light too. Don’t dwell on anger or worries.”

After an afternoon of listening to these instructions, Ji Taoyu still felt dazed even after dinner, lying in bed at night—as if everything was somehow unreal.

He lay in the bed that had been empty for nearly two months, suddenly realizing he wasn’t sleeping alone anymore.

Back when they had just married, Huo Shu sleeping beside him made the bed feel so much more cramped with his long limbs.

Having been used to sprawling out alone, it took some getting used to. But Huo Shu would hold him as they slept, and Ji Taoyu quickly grew accustomed to his warm body, becoming dependent on it. On nights when Huo Shu was late to bed, he’d toss and turn, unable to sleep soundly.

When Huo Shu first left, the weather was still bitterly cold. Ji Taoyu struggled to adjust—the bed felt freezing.

He needed three charcoal braziers at night and had to warm the blankets in advance with a tangpozi just to make them bearable.
[汤婆子 (tāng pó zi): a traditional Chinese bed-warming tool, typically made of metal or ceramic and filled with hot water]

Ji Taoyu stared at the canopy, his palm resting on his belly. In just one afternoon, this gesture had already become second nature.

Yet no matter how long he kept his hand there, he couldn’t feel any movement inside.

Suddenly, he scrambled out of bed and hurried to the bronze mirror he usually used for grooming.

Standing a little farther back, he carefully lifted his inner robe, revealing a pale, smooth stomach in the mirror’s reflection.

Slender, flat, the kind where even lying on your side, there was no flesh to sag.

Every time, Huo Shu could easily wrap his entire arm around it.

Ji Taoyu looked down at his own slender frame, then glanced sideways at his reflection—twice. Pressing his lips together stubbornly, he turned his body to examine himself from another angle, but the conclusion remained the same: he was as thin and delicate as a young bean sprout.
