Chapter 84: Yang Residence
The Two Realms Mountain was a place specifically known for spawning demons, which eventually coalesced into a great demon lord. Even though the Two Realms Mountain in the lower three realms lacked a barrier, the hordes of demons there sought to break through it. Otherwise, there wouldn’t be so many "calamities" appearing.
[Two Realms Mountain (兩界山, Liǎng Jiè Shān): boundary between demonic and human realms.]
Mu Lichuan had heard of the "Two Realms Mountain" from novels before, but he never imagined it would appear near him. After all, such things seemed utterly illusory to him.
"That…" He hesitated, the sinister aura emanating from the ink-wash painting still lingering in his mind. If an ordinary person encountered it, they’d likely be annihilated without a trace.
"Your cultivation is too low for you to worry about these things. Small conflicts are fine, but if you encounter a major problem, just walk away." This was the first time Xiao Mo had spoken so flippantly.
In his view, in the cultivation world, aside from mortals, Foundation Establishment cultivators were practically insignificant. If they ran into anyone stronger, they’d be dead in an instant. Keeping their soul intact would already be a miracle, let alone preserving their physical body.
Mu Lichuan nodded in agreement. He cherished his life dearly, being reborn was no easy feat. He doubted he’d ever encounter the great demon lord of the Two Realms Mountain in this lifetime, let alone deal with other matters. For now, he’d focus on cultivating in peace.
Once he understood the situation, there was no need to meet Mi Shen’s father. During winter break, he spent all his time cultivating. As for the oddities of Mount Sheng and Mount Le, they were beyond the reach of a minor cultivator like him.
"Excuse me, are you Young Master Mu?" A middle-aged man approached nervously as Mu Lichuan left school.
The man was of average height and slightly overweight, typical for his age. When he saw Mu Lichuan, he was surprised, but he trusted the "cleaning company" run by the "Crown Prince."
The company had two senior masters, but both were recuperating and couldn’t take on assignments. The only available consultant was "Young Master Mu."
At first, the man thought "Young Master Mu" was a teacher, but the company’s staff pointed out the boy with the backpack.
Mu Lichuan observed the faint yin energy clinging to the man. It was unclear whether it stemmed from his residence or contact with someone else.
"Yes. You’re Zhao Dayong?" Mu Lichuan asked calmly. The details had already been sent to his phone. While he couldn’t handle major incidents in the capital, minor disturbances were within his capability.
He used to think the capital strictly opposed superstition, but now he realized everything operated in secrecy. Unless it concerned state secrets, ordinary people would never know of their existence.
The government did have "special" agencies dealing with "special" problems, but many things had vanished since the nation’s founding. Issues like haunted houses or ghostly disturbances rarely affected national operations, so experts weren’t dispatched.
Mount Le and Mount Sheng, along with the leaked sinister energy, had to be sealed completely. Otherwise, they could jeopardize the nation’s fate, leading to global catastrophe. That was left to internal personnel.
"Yes, Young Master Mu." Zhao Dayong wore a respectful expression. Those in the know understood this was the Crown Prince’s "new favorite." Even if he lacked skill, it was best not to offend him.
Mu Lichuan nodded. "Let’s check your home first."
Zhao Dayong led him to his residence. Before the elevator even reached their floor, the sound of a child wailing mixed with neighbors’ angry complaints echoed through the hallway.
"What’s wrong with your kid? How can they cry for so long? Don’t you know people need rest? Are you doing this on purpose? If they’re sick, take them to a doctor!" A middle-aged woman snapped at Zhao Dayong the moment she saw him.
This was an upscale residential area, home to wealthy, often nouveau riche residents.
"My apologies, my apologies. The child must’ve been frightened. I’ve already called for help," Zhao Dayong said earnestly.
The woman wasn’t entirely unreasonable. Seeing his sincerity, she muttered a few complaints before leaving. As a housewife, she was home all day, making the crying especially grating.
Mu Lichuan inspected the residence but found no signs of tampering. The issue likely stemmed from natural negative energy.
Natural negative energy in feng shui arises from poor layout or alignment—such as a "piercing hall sha," where the entrance, windows, and balcony form a straight line, allowing unimpeded airflow. This leads to wealth and vitality draining away, making occupants prone to illness and financial loss.
[In feng shui, "Sha" (煞) represents hostile or destructive forces that disrupt harmony and bring misfortune.]
[章阳宅 (Zhāng Yáng Zhái): Yang residence - a residence or structure designed according to Feng Shui principles to harmonize with natural energy (Qi) for prosperity, health, and luck, while avoiding inauspicious influences like Sha Qi (煞气)]
Another example is "sky-cutting sha," where a building faces a narrow gap between two taller structures, resembling a split in the sky. This can cause bloodshed, surgeries, or severe illnesses.
On days he wasn’t in school, Mu Lichuan had studied feng shui extensively. Solving everything with "ghosts" or "soul power" wasn’t enough, he needed solid theoretical knowledge too.
Following Zhao Dayong inside, Mu Lichuan saw a woman holding a child. At first glance, he sensed yin energy clinging to them, unrelated to the house itself.
The child’s face was red from crying, eyes dull and swollen. Clearly, they’d been at it for hours.
"Husband… is this the master?" Zhao Dayong’s wife stammered in disbelief at the young man before her.
Zhao Dayong nodded. He’d once trusted older masters, but they’d been useless. "Young Master Mu, please see what’s wrong with our child."
Mu Lichuan took the child’s hand, channeling soul energy to soothe the child. The crying ceased instantly, astonishing the couple.
Previous masters had performed exorcisms and soul-calling rituals to no avail. Yet this young man merely touched the child’s hand, and the child calmed down. Was their child swayed by looks?
Zhao Dayong wondered. Still, if the Crown Prince valued him, he must be extraordinary.
Ignoring their awed expressions, Mu Lichuan focused on the faint evil energy permeating the room. It reminded him of the sinister aura from the ink-wash painting, though far weaker now that his cultivation had improved.
"Did the child cry like this before?" Mu Lichuan already understood the situation, it was tied to an "unclean object."
"No, the child was always calm. But recently, the crying fits started, especially at night," Zhao Dayong’s wife explained, relieved to see her child peaceful at last.
Even if the master seemed young, his abilities were real. He’d soothed the child without even inspecting the house.
"Have you brought anything new into the home recently?" The residence’s layout seemed fine, so the issue had to stem from an object.
The couple looked puzzled. Mu Lichuan pointed to a door. "May I enter this room?"
"Of course." Zhao Dayong opened it for him.
Inside, Mu Lichuan confirmed the feng shui was flawless, the problem lay in a hanging ornament. Though simple in appearance, it exuded discomfort.
"Where did this come from?" he asked. The ornament was ancient, its material unidentifiable, but it reeked of yin and evil energy - clearly an object tied to the dead.
Zhao Dayong's wife frowned. "My mother-in-law gave it to us recently, saying it would bring harmony." She hadn’t recognized it but assumed it was a family heirloom.
"Young Master Mu, you don’t mean…" Zhao Dayong paled. As a businessman, he grasped the implication. He never imagined his own mother would endanger his child.
Mu Lichuan had no interest in meddling in family drama. "This object is why your child won’t stop crying. It carries heavy yin and evil energy, clearly of dubious origin."
He couldn’t fathom why a grandmother would give such a thing to her daughter-in-law, knowing it would harm her own grandchild.
"Zhao Dayong!" His wife exploded. "Is this your wonderful mother’s doing? Trying to kill me and our child? To ruin this family?" She never thought her mother-in-law could be so malicious.
