Rebirth of the Useless Young Master’s Counterattack Chapter 15

Chapter 15: Yin-Yang Eyes

Upon hearing these words, Mu Xiwang’s eyes widened in disbelief. "A pair of transparent hands?" He had also reviewed the surveillance footage and knew that when his daughter-in-law committed suicide, her body had been unnaturally stiff, as if controlled by something. They had to give the Zhang family an explanation.

Mu Lichuan gave a slight nod. When he focused, he had indeed seen a pair of transparent hands - someone’s hands resting on his mother’s head, rendering her unable to move. "Apart from the shape of the hands, I couldn’t make out anything else."

He suspected ghostly interference, but weren’t ghosts supposed to fear light? Moreover, even if the villa didn’t have exceptionally strong defenses, it should still have some protective measures. Yet, none of the safeguards had been triggered. Either the murderer was extremely powerful, or it truly was a spirit.

His mother usually attended social gatherings with other noblewomen and rarely made enemies. This suggested the perpetrator was likely targeting the Mu family, with his mother merely being collateral damage.

"Could you have Yin-Yang Eyes?" Mu Xiwang’s expression shifted noticeably. His eldest grandson had no spiritual roots, meaning he couldn’t walk the path of cultivation. However, studying metaphysics didn’t necessarily require spiritual roots.
[阴阳眼 (Yīn Yáng Yǎn): lit. Yin-Yang Eyes; fig. The ability to see both the mortal and spirit worlds.]

Mu Lichuan feigned confusion. "What are Yin-Yang Eyes?" He found it strange. In his past life, his eyes had never been able to see ghosts. Why were they different now? Could it be related to the spirit inside him? At this thought, he suppressed his speculations.

He knew the spirit could discern his thoughts. If so, even if he had theories, he had to block the spirit’s access. Having his mind laid bare before someone else was unbearable.

"Yin-Yang Eyes mean the bearer can see not only things in the mortal world but also spirits from the underworld." Even if his grandson’s Yin-Yang Eyes were still weak, this was tremendous news for the Mu family.

"Then… was Mother killed by a ghost?" Mu Lichuan’s voice carried disbelief. "Don’t ghosts fear sunlight?"

He wasn’t entirely ignorant. Shouldn’t ghosts turn to ashes under sunlight? Why had he seen transparent hands if they belonged to a ghost?

"Powerful ghosts can endure sunlight, though not for long." Mu Xiwang looked at Mu Lichuan as if he were a prized treasure.

Previously, he had lamented that his eldest grandson was fated to remain an ordinary man. But now, with these special eyes, he could walk the path of cultivation. Even dabbling in metaphysics would make him far stronger than a normal person.

In truth, metaphysics was another facet of the cultivator’s world.

Mu Lichuan understood, no matter the species, with the right opportunity and cultivation methods, one could defy the heavens.

"Lichuan, this is incredible news. I must inform your great-grandfather." After saying this, Mu Xiwang turned and left, instructing a servant to have Mu Lichuan wait there.

Xiao Mo’s voice sounded weak. "Whoever sealed your Yin-Yang Eyes…" The mortal world was chaotic, hardly conducive to peaceful cultivation.

"What? You mean I originally had this ability, but it was sealed?" Mu Lichuan’s faint excitement vanished, replaced by a sinking feeling.

Now, he wondered if his death in his past life hadn’t been an accident either. No, it wasn’t an accident. He had been killed by Mu Xiaolin. But who was targeting him? Since childhood, he had never possessed Yin-Yang Eyes.

Xiao Mo replied indifferently, "Correct. Unsealing your ability drained too much of my spiritual energy. I must enter hibernation. Until I awaken, stay low-key. Even if… even if humiliated, endure it. Your eyes could still be taken. More details will have to wait until I wake."

"Wait- spiritual energy? This planet’s spiritual energy is thin. What if you’re still asleep by the time I’m old and frail?" Mu Lichuan knew his emotions were showing, but who wouldn’t be shocked by such earth-shattering news?

"Pills." With that final word, Xiao Mo fell silent, no matter how much Mu Lichuan called out.

Mu Lichuan trembled, feeling as though he had grasped something—yet it slipped away. At birth, he had been tested for spiritual roots and deemed worthless. His past life had lasted only thirty short years, but death had opened a new world to him, leading to his rebirth at age fifteen.

Only when a servant announced that his great-grandfather wished to see him did Mu Lichuan compose himself and follow the servant to his great-grandfather’s residence.

Though the place appeared ordinary, Mu Lichuan felt an inexplicable serenity, likely due to the dense spiritual energy here.

"Lichuan, my great-grandson…" When Mu Lichuan saw his great-grandfather, he was startled. The man looked even younger than his grandfather.

"Greetings, Great-Grandfather." Before Mu Lichuan could kneel, an unseen force lifted him. Even though he had known of this power in his past life, it still stirred waves in his heart.

The middle-aged man smiled. "Lichuan, hold this."

Mu Lichuan obeyed, gripping the stone. At first, nothing happened—but then, it erupted with dazzling light…
