Chapter 70
Jiang Lin had seen many scenes of mass murders on TV before. Usually, they happened at night, sometimes in the rain, sometimes with fires, corpses scattered everywhere, from the courtyard all the way into the house.
Now, the scenes from those TV dramas were unfolding right before his eyes, even more vivid and shocking. There were many people lying in they yard—no, corpses. Among them were veterans who had once served under Wei Yunzhao, beggars from the streets, and black-clad assassins. Blood was all over the ground, and the strong smell of blood made Jiang Lin want to vomit.
Inside, the clashing of swords and the agonized screams of a woman could be heard.
Jiang Lin followed the sounds and kicked open a closed door. Inside, he saw a heavily wounded guard struggling to fight with several masked black-clad assailants. A group of them surrounded Su Qiao, slashing her arm viciously and demanding that she hand over something.
Jiang Lin’s sudden appearance drew the attention of everyone in the room. The wounded guard shouted to him, “Young Master Jiang, please save Miss Su!”
The masked assailants quickly turned their focus to Jiang Lin, with one of them yelling, “Kill him!”
Jiang Lin stepped inside, hooked his foot around the door, and slammed it shut. “You’ve killed so many of us today. None of you will leave here alive.”
Jiang Lin moved faster than them, launching an attack first. He snatched a sword from one of the assailants and, with a swift motion, cut the man in half at the waist. His ferocity stunned the others momentarily.
But the hesitation was brief. The assailants reacted quickly, surrounding Jiang Lin with the intent to eliminate him in one fell swoop.
The room was narrow, leaving little space for large movements. Jiang Lin’s blade claimed a life with every strike, and soon half of the assailants lay dead. The remaining ones eyed him with increasing wariness.
The leader gave the orders, “Two of you, take the woman and go. The rest, stay and kill this man. He must die today!”
Jiang Lin raised his sword and charged at the leader. “Do you know? Villains always die because they talk too much.”
Jiang Lin’s blade struck accurately, directly splitting the man’s face in half with a single slash. The man fell to the ground, his eyes wide open, his face frozen in disbelief.
Jiang Lin’s gaze swept over the remaining assailants. “I told you, none of you will leave here alive today.”
“Quick, kill that woman!”
Realizing that Jiang Lin was a formidable opponent, one of the assailants changed tactics, deciding to take Su Qiao’s life instead.
Jiang Lin focused on the one who had spoken, adhering to the principle of killing whoever opened their mouth first. He swiftly dealt with him.
Despite being outnumbered, Jiang Lin took several hits, but he seemed entirely unfazed, his overwhelming presence intimidating the group.
The remaining eight assailants were now visibly afraid of Jiang Lin, but they had no way out. Exchanging glances, they gritted their teeth and charged at him together.
“Madam, open the door,” Wei Yunzhao’s voice suddenly called from outside.
“No time, open it yourself!” Jiang Lin shouted back, engaging with the group once more.
The door was forcefully slammed open, and some of the assailants who saw an opportunity, tried to flee. But Wei Yunzhao, seated in his wheelchair at the entrance, ensured that not a single one of them could cross the threshold.
With the couple working together, the situation was quickly resolved. Once all the assailants were dealt with, Jiang Lin turned his attention to Su Qiao.
Her hands and feet were tied, her clothes torn and soaked in blood. Her body, arms, and legs were covered in wounds, leaving Jiang Lin unsure of how to even touch her.
Beads of sweat dotted her forehead as Su Qiao weakly opened her mouth to speak. “I’m fine. They didn’t want to kill me. I won’t die… for now.”
Jiang Lin really didn't dare to touch her, so he used his blade to cut the ropes binding her hands and feet. However, once the ropes were removed, he noticed that her wrists and ankles were also injured, it was obvious that the tendons in her hands and feet had been severed.
“Damn it, these beasts!”
He couldn’t help but curse, but he had no idea how to comfort Su Qiao. All he could say was, “Hang in there. I’ll go get a doctor.”
He and Wei Yunzhao had left in a hurry, intending only to take a stroll and clear their minds, so Jiang Lin had driven the carriage himself without bringing any servants.
Wei Yunzhao was now guarding the only surviving guard, one of the four assigned by the Sixth Prince to protect Su Qiao. The man was gravely injured, barely clinging to life.
Jiang Lin went outside and rummaged through the kitchen, finding two bowls. He filled them with water from his space and brought them back for Su Qiao and the guard to drink.
He said to Wei Yunzhao, “Stay here and keep watch. Also, check if anyone outside is still alive. I’ll go fetch a doctor.” Neither Su Qiao nor the guard could be moved, so they had to bring the doctor to them.
“Alright, go to Dr. Zhu from Miaoshou Clinic. It's inconvenient for others to come,” Wei Yunzhao advised.
Jiang Lin nodded and left.
The massacre had left so many dead, and the thick stench of blood hung heavy in the air. Yet, none of the nearby residents had come out to investigate. Something felt off, and Jiang Lin decided he would look into it more thoroughly upon his return.
Jiang Lin not only fetched the doctor but also reported the incident to the authorities. With so many deaths, it was a major case that had to be investigated. Jiang Lin was also curious to see who would come to warn Yin Ji this time, telling him not to meddle.
When the carriage stopped outside the small courtyard again, Dr. Zhu stepped down with his medical kit. Even though he had mentally prepared himself on the way, the sight of the courtyard filled with corpses still shocked him.
