Chapter 113
"The cold season is coming, and a beast horde is heading our way. To get fresh meat, they went out hunting early in the morning."
As Su Yi spoke, he picked up a meatball and brought it to Tang Yu's lips. Tang Yu took a bite and was immediately captivated by the delicious flavor. The meatball was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, leaving a rich aroma in his mouth.
"This is amazing!" Tang Yu struggled to sit up, and Su Yi quickly placed a cushion behind him. Without support, Tang Yu would easily topple over.
Once he fell, it would be like the sky and earth flipping, getting up on his own would be nothing short of a miracle.
Back at his own home, there had been a time when Jells went out, only to return and find Tang Yu lying on the bed with a look of utter despair. Before leaving, Jells had propped Tang Yu up, but Tang Yu had reached for a fruit and accidentally tipped over, unable to get back up. So he just lay there, his huge belly making him look utterly helpless, waiting for Jells to return.
After that incident, Tang Yu became afraid of being alone. That’s why Jells had brought him here this time, not just because it was safer at Su Yi’s place, but also to prevent Tang Yu from getting stuck again.
Su Yi and Tang Yu chatted and ate together, and before they knew it, they had eaten everything edible.
Su Yi suddenly snapped back to reality and patted his belly in dismay. "Damn, gluttony really is contagious. If I keep eating like this, my perfect figure is going to disappear."
Tang Yu gave Su Yi a disdainful look, then rubbed his own belly.
"Heh, feels like I’m carrying a basketball."
A basketball? Su Yi glanced at it, then moved behind Tang Yu, staring intently at his stomach.
Tang Yu grew uneasy under his gaze and said, "If you want to touch it, be careful."
Su Yi reached out but suddenly pulled his hand back. He remembered something his mother had once told him, when she was pregnant with him, a neighbor who had been struggling to conceive came over and asked to touch her belly, believing it would bring her luck. His mother, feeling sorry for her, allowed it, and miraculously, the neighbor later got pregnant.
Though the idea was superstitious, Su Yi decided not to take the risk. He loved kids, but he already had two at home. Right now, he would rather enjoy some alone time with Sinoer.
Seeing Su Yi lost in thought, Tang Yu assumed he was afraid of causing harm by touching. He grabbed Su Yi’s hand and abruptly placed it on his belly.
"Don’t worry, Su Yi. You’re going to be this kid’s godfather. What’s there to be afraid of?" Tang Yu said generously.
Su Yi froze as if electrocuted.
He lowered his gaze to his hand on Tang Yu’s belly and suddenly felt a sense of foreboding.
Tang Yu noticed Su Yi’s drastic change in expression and asked worriedly, "Su Yi, are you okay?"
Su Yi slowly withdrew his hand and forced a smile. "Probably... probably fine."
Probably fine?
Tang Yu rolled his eyes. How could someone not know if they were okay? Seriously.
In the afternoon, Jells and the others returned with a bountiful haul.
Perhaps sensing something, Jells followed Sinoer’s example and processed all the prey before bringing it to Su Yi’s house.
Previously, Jells had always been the one who hunted the most, but since his family couldn’t eat everything, he would leave some for others. This time, however, everyone had enough, and wasting it would be a shame. So Jells shamelessly hauled everything to Su Yi’s place.
Though curious, no one questioned it. They all knew Su Yi had a large cellar—maybe Jells was storing the excess there.
Later, Sinoer took Su Yi outside. It turned out Jells and Sinoer had hidden even more prey in a cave outside the valley to avoid suspicion.
Su Yi stared at the mountain of unprocessed prey, his face twitching. He resigned himself to dragging one toward the river.
But after only a few steps, he suddenly felt dizzy.
"What’s wrong? You look pale," Sinoer immediately noticed Su Yi’s discomfort. He dropped what he was holding and carried Su Yi back home.
Su Yi didn’t feel particularly unwell, just incredibly lazy. In the end, Jells and Sinoer secretly processed all the prey in the dead of night.
Near dawn, Sinoer washed up thoroughly before daring to enter the bedroom. But even then, Su Yi could still smell the heavy scent of blood on him.
Just as Su Yi was about to speak, his stomach churned violently.
Seeing Su Yi’s expression darken, Sinoer reached out to steady him, but Su Yi pushed him away.
Sinoer paused, then realized the smell must be making Su Yi nauseous.
But in the past, Su Yi had never been bothered by blood, he’d even hunted himself without issue. So why now?
Both Su Yi and Sinoer were puzzled.
Helpless, Su Yi and Sinoer slept in separate rooms for the first time, as if they were going through some seven-year itch.
For several days, Su Yi slept poorly, dreaming of all kinds of children or small beasts running wild in the forest.
Meanwhile, the orcs were busy. The recent beast horde had left a strong scent of blood around the valley, which would likely attract more beasts.
To ensure the valley’s safety, everyone worked tirelessly, building more traps, reinforcing defenses, improving the tunnels for comfort, and stockpiling food and water. They didn’t want their females suffering in the tunnels.
A few more days passed. The ice in the river had completely melted. Late one night, a loud crash came from the water gate.
The valley’s alarm horn blared.
